The countdown to Earth Day has officially begun. Even though that chubby little groundhog Punxsutawney Phil told us there will be six more weeks of winter, sunshine, greenery, baseball and, of course, farmers markets are on the horizon.
In the meantime, while you’re holed up in your homes keeping warm and cursing the groundhog, it’s the perfect time to catch up on green reads (no, not putting news!)…those magazines, books and websites devoted to a healthier, greener you. (Count how many times I can say green in one blog.)
My recipe for winter grumpiness includes curling up under blanker with a cup of, errr, green tea and reading the latest issue of E/The Environmental Magazine. When I need some dish, I hit up Ecorazzi, the blog of green gossip. With Treehugger, the leading media outlet dedicated to driving sustainability, mainstream has some truly motivating stuff. They cover the basics—organic cotton, hybrid cars, compact fluorescent light bulbs, composting—alongside daily articles featuring environmental leaders, initiatives and national and international news. Treehugger also has the goods on how to green up your sex life and, less risqué I suppose, how to green your pets. I love, love, love GRIST, environmental news and commentary. Given election season, readers can go on and find out how green their candidate is.
As for the books…True Green has 100 everyday ways you can contribute to a healthier planet. The Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook has 77 essentials skills to stop climate change, and It’s Easy Being Green. A Handbook for Earth-Friendly Living presents a strategy for living a healthier, greener life without the fuss.
